Himmerland is bounded by the Limfiord to the north and west and by the Mariager Fiord to the south. This is why Himmerland can by characterized as a peninsula. In the northern part of Himmerland is Aalborg, the 4th biggest city with its abundance of attractions and cultural offers.

Himmerland is known for Rold Skov, the biggest forest in Denmark. The forest consists in a most varied landscape of heather-covered hills, various streams and beautiful forest lakes. The landscape of Himmerland has been formed by the glacial age. Both Rebild Bakker (hills) and the Muldbjerge illustrate this in a perfect way. You can enjoy the most beautiful view from the Muldbjerge where the impressive morainic knolls rise right up in the air from the elsewhere very flat area. The highest point of Mulbjerge is 43 meters. From here you can see Kattegat to the east, and to the west you have a view to the reserve called Lille Vildmose. In Lille Vildmose the animal life is rich and interesting. There are golden eagles, wild boars, cranes, otters and many other animals.

Besides Aalborg there are various charming towns and villages in Himmerland, among others Hobro, Mariager and Hadsund situated along the Mariager Fiord. All of them have wonderful views of the fiord.
