In the northern part of Djursland there is a great and beautiful nature. Enjoy the big forest areas, river valleys, open landscapes and the many, fantastic coastal areas. The biggest town in the region is Randers – a place of fine shopping possibilities, art, culture and attractions for all the family.
In this unique area there are various types of coasts: the wide sandy beaches to the Kattegat side with high dunes and chalk cliffs where to find fossils, the beach meadows with fabulous flora and the beautiful freshwater fiords, for instance Randers Fiord. This fiord is the mouth of the Gudenå into Kattegat, a paradise for anglers. At various places you can go by a small, charming ferry from coast to coast, this for instance at Mellerup Voer and Udbyhøj.
In Randers, situated in the bottom of Randers Fiord, you can go for art experiences and cultural activities, for instance at the art museum of Randers, which has one the biggest collection of Danish visual arts. The most famous attraction is Randers Regnskov (rain forest), the biggest artificial rain forest in North Europe. You may also visit Graceland, Randers, a true copy of Elvis’s Graceland, USA. In the eastern part of North Djursland is Grenaa, the old market town, a former centre of commerce for this part of Djursland. Take a stroll in the small and charming pedestrian streets of the town or enjoy the wonderful beaches on both sides of the town. From Grenaa you can take the ferry to Anholt (island).
