The market town in the Zwettl district lies on the edge of the extensive Weinsberg Forest with ancient forests. The Meloner Au is one of the most beautiful raised moor areas between the Waldviertel and Mühlviertel and is known as a nature reserve. The hikeable area at 900 meters above sea level is characterized by dense forests, mystical moors and granite formations.
Altmelon is located near the district capital Zwettl, known as a gourmet and shopping town, city wall town and brewing town and known for its historical heritage. Well-known sights include Zwettl Abbey, the Zwettl private brewery and the Lichtenfels castle ruins.
In summer, the bathing pond in Arbesbach and the Klausteich (forest pond) bathing lake in Altmelon offer lots of bathing fun!
There are plenty of shops for your daily needs directly in town or in Zwettl, as well as a good selection of restaurants.
